Cognitive Awareness

Exploring the Human-Tech Threshold through Immersive Art and Critical Dialogue

Cognitive Awareness is an artistic and curatorial project conceived in 2022 by Alessandro Risuleo, at a time when generative AI was just beginning to emerge publicly. The initiative stemmed from the intuition that society needed to reflect critically—not only on the wonders, but also the ambiguities—of the widespread integration of intelligent technologies in everyday life.

The result was a three-day multidimensional event blending art, live performance, public discourse, and immersive experimentation. An experience designed to ignite awareness, engagement, and new forms of collective perception.

01. Phygital Artwork & Augmented Reality Layering

We presented a multi-layered conceptual artwork designed across three dimensions of perception:

  • Fine Art Photography: portraying the human figure as an anthropomorphic subject entrapped by a giant red ring — a symbol of technological domination and the invisible digital structures embedded in daily life;
  • AR Experience: by scanning the artwork with a smartphone or tablet, the image would come alive through generative animations and motion layers, turning passive observation into an augmented interaction;
  • Holographic Performance Layer: the figure captured in the artwork originated from a live dance performance, which was staged both physically within the exhibition and remotely projected in real time into any domestic space, using an innovative AR holographic technology developed in collaboration with OVER.

With just a smartphone, users could project a full-sized virtual dancer into their living room.

A cross-level narrative system that fused body, time, and digital language into a unified perceptual grammar.

02. Curated Digital Art Exhibition

The exhibition featured digital works by 10 international artists, curated by Eleonora Brizi (Breezy), alongside other notable voices from the Italian art scene — with the concept, organization, and artistic direction curated by our team.

The curatorial focus explored the evolving relationship between body, identity, and technology, with themes ranging from self-dissolution and alternate realities to hybrid organic-digital futures and algorithmic dreamscapes.

The works — including NFTs, video art, immersive installations, and hybrid renderings — offered fragmented but interconnected visions of a post-human condition, each reflecting a personal attempt to claim space and meaning in the “new world.”

03. Immersive Tech & Metaverse Deployment

Alongside the physical exhibition, we developed a fully navigable experiential metaverse, allowing audiences to access a parallel sensorial and conceptual dimension.

The digital installation included:

  • Interactive 3D environments
  • Animated NFT artworks displayed in custom virtual spaces
  • Cinematic 360° content
  • Non-linear VR storytelling experiences

This immersive environment, accessible via headset or desktop, expanded the scope of the exhibition into a multi-presence system, seamlessly blending physical and digital realms.

04. Critical Engagement & Collective Dialogue

Throughout the three-day Cognitive Awareness event, the public was invited to engage in live performances, public talks, roundtables, and interactive activations.

We designed the format not just for passive viewing, but for active participation — inviting artists, thinkers, and visitors into a multi-voice dialogue about the current and future impact of intelligent technologies.

Reflection unfolded on ethical, aesthetic, and perceptual levels. And one question, left deliberately unanswered, lingered in the air: “What remains of the human when the machine’s language becomes invisible?”
