A Technopoetic Homage to the Enchantment of the Impossible

WONDER is an immersive artistic experience designed for virtual reality, born from the collaboration between Alessandro Risuleo and the Italian creative collective Hyperstudio. Commissioned for the EmotionAir exhibition, the project reimagines the archetype of the circus as a symbolic space of wonder — where reality bends, logic suspends, and the impossible becomes a spectacle of pure amazement. By blending real-world elements with AI-generated visuals, WONDER constructs a dreamlike, sensorial environment that revives childlike awe in adults while amplifying the natural enchantment of the young. The experience is both a tribute and a reinvention of the circus as an ancient arena of splendor, offering a reflection on the human condition, the transformative power of dreams, and art’s ability to unite audiences in moments of collective immersion.

01. AI-to-VR180 Pipeline

To create WONDER, we developed an innovative production pipeline that merges generative AI with stereoscopic video technologies, resulting in a high-resolution immersive VR180 experience.

  • Prompt design powered by ChatGPT, focused on wide compositions and semantic cohesion;
  • Image generation via MidJourney (16:9 format, cinematic framing);
  • Video animation using Kling AI (motion synthesis and transitions);
  • Post-processing with Topaz Video AI for upscaling, smoothing, and 60fps delivery;
  • Stereoscopic conversion to 8K Side-by-Side ProRes using OWL3D;
  • VR180 mapping in DaVinci Resolve Fusion with fisheye lens distortion, channel merging, and equirectangular export.

The final output is a fully immersive stereoscopic 3D video, optimized for next-gen VR headsets such as Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro.

02. Hybrid Aesthetics & Artistic Language

Visually, the experience embraces a hybrid aesthetic — combining real footage, AI-generated textures, and liminal environments to evoke a temporal and spatial suspension. The style draws from fine art photography and experimental cinema, using contrast and surreal cues to craft a visual grammar designed to captivate without explaining.

Rather than following a narrative structure, WONDER invites viewers into an emotional and symbolic landscape. The user becomes not a character, but a consciousness immersed in a collective memory.

03. Multi-Device VR Deployment System

To enable large-scale collective viewing within exhibition settings, we developed — in collaboration with software engineers — an advanced remote VR control system.

This platform allows for the real-time management and synchronization of over 140 Oculus headsets, all operated from a single remote interface:

  • Simultaneous playback launch across all devices

  • Real-time monitoring of playback status

  • Automated session control and queue management

  • Wi-Fi network compatibility for museums, events, or trade shows

A robust, scalable solution designed to transform individual VR experiences into synchronized moments of collective immersion.
